Lopez's Zemeckis thriller wrapped nine months ago and Netflix still has not dated it

The Last Mrs. Parrish, the New York shoot Jennifer Lopez was filming last October, finished principal photography in November 2025 and has no release date. In the meantime Netflix put out Office Romance, and her Kiss of the Spider Woman awards campaign ended without a single major nomination.

Jennifer Lopez was filming The Last Mrs. Parrish on the streets of Manhattan last October. Ten months later the film has wrapped, has no release date, and is no longer the most consequential thing on her Netflix slate.

Netflix announced the project in April 2025. Variety and The Hollywood Reporter both reported that Lopez would star for director Robert Zemeckis in an adaptation of Liv Constantine's 2017 novel, Liv Constantine being the pen name of the sisters Lynne and Valerie Constantine. Andrea Berloff and John Gatins wrote the screenplay.

The novel gives the film its shape: a con artist sets out to displace a wealthy man's wife by befriending her, and the plan is upended when she discovers how complicated the wife's life actually is.

The cast settled over the following months. Lopez plays Daphne Parrish, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau her husband Jackson, and Isabel May the interloper Amber Patterson, with Pierson Fodé, Debi Mazar and Denis O'Hare in support. Lopez is credited as a producer alongside Liza Chasin, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, Benny Medina and Molly Sims.

Principal photography began in September 2025 in New Jersey and New York City. What's on Netflix reported that filming wrapped in November 2025 and that no release date has been set, with expectations running to late 2026 or 2027. The film remains listed as upcoming.

The original coverage of that Manhattan shoot leaned heavily on what Lopez was wearing, sourced from fashion blogs photographing her between takes. Those descriptions cannot be traced to the trade record, and a costume worn on a public street during a working day is not, on its own, information about a film.

What happened next is. On 5 June 2026 Netflix released Office Romance, a romantic comedy directed by Ol Parker in which Lopez plays Jackie Cruz, the chief executive of a company called Air Cruz who enforces a no fraternisation policy, opposite Brett Goldstein. Deadline reviewed it that month. What's on Netflix reported that the film carries an R rating for sexual material, language and graphic nudity and runs one hour 52 minutes. It is Lopez's latest for the platform after The Mother and Atlas.

The other strand of the original story has closed entirely. Kiss of the Spider Woman, Bill Condon's musical, which Lopez was promoting when the New York shoot took place, was campaigned in the Best Supporting Actress category, as Gold Derby reported. It did not work. Lopez was not nominated at the 2026 Golden Globes, where Primetimer and Cinemablend both listed her among the year's notable omissions.

Nor was she nominated at the 98th Academy Awards in March 2026. The Best Supporting Actress nominees were Elle Fanning and Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas for Sentimental Value, Amy Madigan for Weapons, Wunmi Mosaku for Sinners and Teyana Taylor for One Battle After Another, according to ABC News. Madigan won.

The film itself did not help the case. Screen Rant reported that Kiss of the Spider Woman opened to a three day total projected at about US$840,000, a per screen average of roughly US$632. Lopez did collect the Virtuoso Award at the SCAD Savannah Film Festival, as The Hollywood Reporter reported, which is the kind of honour a campaign accumulates when the votes do not follow.

So the position ten months on is this. The performance Lopez was banking on for awards recognition did not convert. The film she was shooting when the original story ran is finished and unscheduled. The film that actually reached audiences in 2026 was a romantic comedy nobody was writing about last October.

None of that is a collapse. Zemeckis films routinely sit in post production for a year, and Netflix holds titles for slate reasons rather than quality ones. But the question that mattered in October 2025, whether The Last Mrs. Parrish would be the vehicle that reset Lopez's screen career, is still unanswered, and it stays unanswered until Netflix puts a date on it. The platform has given no indication of when that will be.
