Sourcing standard
The rules a story has to clear before it is published.
Before publication
- Every factual claim traces to a source in the list at the foot of the story.
- Where sources disagree, the disagreement is reported rather than resolved silently.
- A date is stated for anything that has one, and "recently" is not a date.
- A company's own claim about itself is labelled as such.
- Nothing is published on the strength of a single source that is itself uncited.
The build refuses some things outright
A reporting story that arrives with no sources fails the build rather than being published with a zero beside it, because a zero next to a news headline would look like comment. Comment carries an explicit designation instead.
